New Learning Management System Released; Software Addresses Real-World Business Concerns

Convergence Training has released the newest version of its learning management system. Unlike many existing systems, this new LMS was created specifically for businesses with large workforces.

Vancouver, WA, October 07, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Convergence Training, a provider of workforce training solutions, has announced the release of its new learning management system: Convergence Server Enterprise. The new software has been three years in the making, and it improves on the functionality and features of the company's first-generation LMS.

“Our manufacturing and industrial clients have given us some great feedback on what features they’d like to see,” said Randy Kohltfarber, Director of Product Development at Convergence. “Unlike a lot of university-style systems, our LMS is focused on solving the problems that come with managing large workforces.”

One major problem faced by large companies is limited bandwidth. Multimedia training materials, like videos and interactive modules, can contain large files. When shared between multiple locations from a single server, as is often done at large corporations, access and playback can be very slow. The Convergence solution allows storage of the training content on a company’s local servers, allowing easy sharing and playback of files across a multi-point network.

The general problem of multiple company locations, and how those locations interact, is the main focus of many of the new features on the Convergence offering.

“It’s all about the infrastructure,” said Kenny Della Valle, Convergence's Product Manager. “A lot of LMS systems out there don’t have much flexibility in design or the way you set up your system. We allow administrators an easy way to share content, assign access to other administrators, and move content between remote locations.”

Another issue with most learning management systems is the lack of flexibility in creating different categories of employees and administrators. Convergence tackled that problem by allowing greater control over employee groups and privileges. Administrators can select employee groups using a multitude of parameters, allowing for easy assignment and tracking of training.

The Convergence Server Enterprise is technically what is known in the industry as an LCMS – a learning content management system. This means that administrators can use the Convergence solution to create and deliver their own training materials, such as quizzes and tasklists that include photos, video, and common formats of office documents.

The Convergence software also allows tracking of real-world events like classroom learning, on-the-job training, and teaching by third-party trainers.

“A lot of important training happens at a company’s facility, not just online or on the computer,” said Della Valle. “We think it’s vital to have an option to track these ‘off-line’ events, so that our clients can use our system to handle all of their training needs.”

The Convergence software uses SQL Server Reporting, which lets users create reports in a variety of formats, including graphs, tables, and pie charts. Reports can be automatically generated and emailed in common formats (including Excel) to specific recipients at scheduled intervals.

The Convergence platform is now available for purchase and has already been implemented on several of their customers’ servers.

Said Kohltfarber, “With this (new system), we’re confident that we’ll be at the cutting edge of business-focused LMS for years to come.”
