New Release by Deanna K. Klingel Shows the Healing and Joy of Therapy Dogs; Published by Dog Ear Publishing
Although golden retriever Lily provided the usual puppy mischief, she never pushed on a door or dragged the author, who suffered from Lyme disease. She breezed through obedience and agility training, and passed her Canine Good Citizen test. She also passed the Therapy Dog International certification test with flying colors. Knowing how much Lily had helped her own recovery, the author decided to share her experience with others, beginning Lily’s ministry as a therapy dog.
Sapphire, NC, October 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Golden retriever Lily, born on Valentine’s Day, came to her new home on Easter weekend. Although she provided the usual puppy mischief, she never pushed on a door, got on the bed or dragged the author, who suffered from Lyme disease. She breezed through obedience and agility training, and passed her Canine Good Citizen test. When the time came to pass the Therapy Dog International certification test, she did so with flying colors. Knowing how much Lily had helped her own recovery, the author decided to share her experience with others, beginning Lily’s ministry as a therapy dog.
Just for the Moment, published by Dog Ear Publishing, shows the often-poignant and spiritual journey of Lily and Jessie, another golden retriever therapy dog – ordinary pets who became extraordinary therapy dogs, weaving small miracles every day. For instance, it is Lily who first discovers that Jessie, abandoned and clinging to life, was blind. (Treatment has brought her some vision.) The dogs’ visits to health care facilities show that sometimes all a patient needs is a quiet listener, a friendly look or soft fur to touch. The therapy dogs do everything from calming a nursing home resident frantic to get home to feed her own dog to lowering the blood pressure of patients at the free dental clinic. They are easy to be around and easy to talk to. As the author writes, “Through a dog, they reconnected for just a moment to a life they used to enjoy. Laughter is healing, and I believe we’ve brought some healing and joy to them.”
Author Deanna Klingel is a member of the North Carolina Writer’s Network, Society of Childrens’ Book Writers and Illustrators, American Christian Fiction Writers and Royal Scribblers of Cashiers. She lives in Sapphire Valley, N.C. Lily, 9, is in the third level of advancement for Therapy Dogs International and is a library Reading Buddy. Jessie, 14, is in the second level of advancement for Therapy Dog International and a library Reading Buddy. She recently was diagnosed with leukemia.
