New York, NY, October 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Struggling to overcome the post-traumatic effects as a veteran of the Vietnam War and find meaning in life, Ezekiel turns to a charismatic spiritual master. But spiritual enlightenment and peace prove elusive after devoting a year to the task, so he abandons his home in his mentor’s ashram to begin a quest on his own. These decisions affect more than just the novel’s protagonist, as he also leaves behind his wife and son, who love him dearly. Despite their pleas, he rejects their love to focus all his energy on his spiritual quest.

Ezekiel by the Sea, published by Dog Ear Publishing, begins with the story of Ezekiel, who becomes a preacher at a young age. He battles his sin, lust, but is caught in its trap and marries. After moving to the United States, he works two factory shifts and attends college but enlists in the Army. At first he resists the allure of drinking and drugs, but the horrors of war become too much to handle. A chance encounter with Buddhist monks in the midst of a jungle firefight has life-altering consequences.

The novel also is the story of Maurice, Ezekiel’s son, who begins a quest of his own: to find his father and reunite his parents. He eventually finds his father at an oceanfront home in Florida, where Ezekiel has found a measure of tranquility. Meeting with Maurice threatens to derail his quest. Eventually, Ezekiel must decide the fate of his quest, learning lessons through suffering and knowing what it means to lose everything. The author draws on his own upbringing and spiritual quest in offering this personal, heartfelt story of one man’s search for spiritual perfection and meaning.
