Dedicated Artist Donna Crosby Joins Austin Art Space
Austin, TX, October 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Austin Art Space artists-in-residence roster continues to evolve with long-time painter Donna Crosby taking studio space in the cooperative. The nine resident artists represent a wide range of mediums including pastels, oils, acrylic, photography, mixed media and collage.
Donna herself has worked in most of those mediums, starting at age 10. Initially influenced by Hopper, Wyeth and Degas, her work is also shaped by the more contemporary styles of Dean Mitchell, Richard McKinley, Charles Reid and Desmond O’Hagan. Today, her broad strokes and expansive palette transcend the medium, marking each scene as her own. Nature, cities, people and places all bend to her unique vision. She is a prolific artist with a strong following.
Ms. Crosby had experience with Austin Art Space before moving in. She said, “I booked the gallery here for my solo exhibits with notable sales success. As a resident artist, my work will get more public exposure on an on-going basis. Further, I respect and can learn from the current artists in residence.” Patrons can follow Ms. Crosby’s daily artistic journey at her blog: www.crosbyslifepaintings.blogspot.com.
Valerie Walden, director of Austin Art Space commented, “We’re thrilled to have Donna on board. Her distinctive style is different from all the other residents. But, because she works across so many different mediums, she complements many of our other artists. It’s a wonderful fit.”
Ms. Walden continued, “Since we opened in November 2008, Austin Art Space has hosted 26 separate exhibitions including six juried shows. And, we have showcased over 100 different artists from all over Texas, and as far away as Alaska, France, South Africa and New Zealand.”
The next juried exhibition on Austin Art Space’s schedule is the 6th Annual “12 Buy 12” Holiday Art Show & Sale, November 16 – December 18, 2010. All artwork is 12 inches by 12 inches. The show presents more accessible art appropriate for holiday gift giving, personal enjoyment and newer collectors. This year’s juror is Carl McQueary, a knowledgeable collector, art scholar and life-long Texas historian.
The show has traditionally been the gallery’s most popular exhibit. Last year, nearly 400 people attended the opening reception. This year, the reception will be held on Saturday, November 20, 5:00-9:00 pm.
