AIA Mid-Michigan to Host “Canstruction” Event at Meridian Mall, Oct. 30-Nov. 7
Canstruction is an international charity competition where participants design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food. The cans used for these projects will be donated to the Greater Lansing Food Bank afterward.
Lansing, MI, October 09, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Mid-Michigan chapter will be combining its creative and charitable sides when it hosts its first Canstruction™ competition from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Meridian Mall located at 1982 W. Grand River Avenue in Okemos, Mich.
Canstruction is an international charity competition where architects, interior designers and students they mentor, design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food. Once the projects are complete, they will be judged with the winner moving onto the national competition to be held in the spring of 2011.
“This is something that enables us to shine a spotlight on the design and construction industry while also giving back to the community,” said AIA Mid-Michigan President Dan Bollman. “I have been a fan of Canstruction for quite some time. The designs that people come up with using canned foods are a testament to their creativity. We look forward to bringing this competition to the Lansing-Okemos area.”
All projects will remain on display at Meridian Mall through Nov. 7. The structures then will be taken down and the cans will be donated to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
“Particularly with the holidays just around the corner and our economy still struggling, this contribution could not have come at a better time,” said Terry Link, executive director of the Greater Lansing Food Bank. “On behalf of the tens of thousands of people we feed annually, we are grateful that AIA Mid-Michigan and its sponsors considered us as the recipient of this generous offer.”
