Founder of Fundamental Physiology and Thyroid Expert Dr Gina Honeyman is on Tour in Ireland

Thousands of men, women and children suffer from metabolic and thyroid-related illnesses in Ireland today. Now on a whistle stop tour of Ireland, Dr Gina Honeyman, a world expert and pioneer of Metabolic Rehabilitation, author, researcher and founder of Fundamental Physiology, LLC will be giving a series of lectures and offering metabolic evaluations for those with health concerns.

Boulder, CO, October 20, 2010 --(PR.com)-- It is believed that one in a 1000 suffer from some form of thyroid disease, the effects of which include fatigue, aches and pains, depression and weight gain. In Ireland there are no patient groups or organisations fighting for a better deal for those with thyroid issues. Now a thyroid expert and founder of Fundamental Physiology, Dr Gina Honeyman says there could be many thousands of people with thyroid dysfunction who are left untreated.

She says, "With a recent study highlighting the fact that Irish people are now the second fattest in Europe and levels of obesity soaring by a worrying 40% over the past decade, now is the time to investigate metabolic and environmental illnesses. The study found almost one in four adults is obese in Ireland. We all know that impaired thyroid regulation can make it near impossible for people who do eat well and exercise to lose any weight.”

Dr Honeyman maintains that with increasing numbers of patients presenting with ME, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, hypothyroidism, and thyroid hormone resistance, many of them have a common factor, an impaired metabolism. "Lack of exercise, nutritional deficiencies, or certain medications, such as some antidepressants, can all be responsible for slowing metabolism. But also many toxic, man-made chemicals in the environment can upset any of the 'moving parts' of the thyroid system. However it may happen, problems with thyroid hormone production or utilization at the cellular level are the main reasons for impaired metabolism," she says. “Normal thyroid hormone regulation is one of the most necessary ingredients for optimal metabolic health. I believe the underlying cause of ME, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome for many people could be hypo-metabolism due to thyroid disease.”

Evening lectures focus on how people suffering with ME, fibromyalgia, adrenal fatigue and thyroid problems can get accurate diagnostics and effective treatment. Metabolic Rehabilitation is the process for recovery that sees a high number of Dr Honeyman’s clients either fully recover or significantly improve. A full metabolic evaluation begins that process and includes the actual measurements of resting metabolic rate, body composition, and other measures. A consultation includes a discussion of exam findings, health history, and recommendations. Some people may want only a consultation to discuss their health history and lab test reports and that can also be arranged.
