Her family in Nigeria found it difficult to travel freely, and some family members chose not to renew their travel visas for fear of harassment. News of internet scams added to the tarnishing of Nigeria’s image. These issues, as well as Nigeria’s impending 50th birthday, spurred Ayeni to write a book to debunk some of the misconceptions about her beloved homeland.
