Women & Infants Physician Named President of Urogynecology Society
Dr. Deborah Myers, director of the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Women & Infants Hospital has been installed as president of the American Urogynecologic Society.
Providence, RI, October 20, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Deborah L. Myers, MD, of North Kingstown, director of the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery and the Program in Women’s Physical Therapy at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, has been installed as president of the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS).
The AUGS, found in1979, is a physician-based organization dedicated to research, education and sharing of best practices in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery that results in improved care for women.
“This is a critical time to lead AUGS in its next steps – educating and mentoring our future leaders. This is an important goal of mine. AUGS needs to ensure the continued growth and success of the organization and, in turn, the future care for women with pelvic floor disorders. I will work diligently to meet the challenges ahead,” said Dr. Myers. “I am confident that we will continue to promote the highest quality care in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery through excellence in education, research and advocacy.”
A graduate of Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, Dr. Myers earned her medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She completed a combined medical-surgical internship at Rhode Island Hospital, a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital, and a fellowship in urogynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital, University of Connecticut.
Dr. Myers is an acknowledged national and international leader in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, serving on the Data and Safety Monitoring Board for the Urinary Incontinence Treatment Network of the National Institute of Health’s Division of Kidney, Urologic and Hematologic Diseases, and on the Advisory Board for the Pelvic Floor Disorders Network of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
Research spearheaded by Dr. Myers has been recognized a number of time by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She currently serves as an editorial reviewer for eight professional journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine and The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and has co-authored 47 original publications in peer-reviewed journals, 11 other peer-reviewed publications.
