The Rhythms of Brazil Comes to Life in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, October 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Grupo Bantus Capoeira Malaysia (GBCM) is proud to announce its 7th Annual Festival, Ritmo Do Brasil 2010 which runs from the 3rd to the 7th of November 2010.
Ritmo Do Brasil or Rhythm Of Brazil, aims to spread the vibrant energy and vivacious spirit of Brazil – a mix of Portuguese, African and Native Brazilian culture. This is done through lively workshops, energetic performances, explosive percussions and exciting music. It is also aimed at educating and exposing students of Capoeira to the styles and techniques of different teachers. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art practiced as a dance, fight or game that originated among the African slaves brought by the Portuguese to work in Brazil sometime after the sixteenth century.
One of the two highlights of Ritmo Do Brasil 2010 is Noite Brasileira (Brazilian Night) where the public will be entertained by the explosive sounds of the Samba Batucada (Samba Band), vivacious movements of the Samba dancers, gravity- defying displays of the Capoeira players, energetic performance of the Maculelé dance drama and smooth swing of the Forró dancers – all happening in the heart of Kuala Lumpur at the Frangipani Restaurant & Bar at Changkat Bukit Bintang on Saturday, 6 November 2010. Also for the first time in Malaysia, Noite Brasileira will feature the Berimbau de Corpo (a Berimbau only orchestra) showcasing the intricate rhythms of the main instrument in the Bateria de Capoeira (Capoeira Orchestra).
The second and more important highlight of Ritmo do Brasil 2010 is the Batizado or grading ceremony for the students of Capoeira. New students are initiated as official members of GBCM by receiving their first cord while existing members may receive their progressive cords depending on their development. GBCM happily welcomes participation by regional GBC affiliates as well as members of the public.
As the local chapter of Grupo Bantus Capoeira Brasil (GBCB), GBCM will be hosting Mestre Pintor (Founding Head of GBCB), Professor Claudinho (GBC Singapore), Formado Grao (GBC Australia) Professor Pimbal (Escola Brasileira de Capoeira Malaysia), Professor Fantasma (Escola Brasileira de Capoeira Philippines) and Professor Margo (Grupo Besoura Maganga Singapore).
