Join Builders and Veterans as They Donate a New Home to a U.S. Hero
Local combat wounded veteran, U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Stan Roberts, will be presented with keys to his new home during a large Marine Corps style extreme new home celebration on Nov. 4 at 9:30 a.m. in Fuquay Varina, N.C. Public is welcome to attend and celebrate Roberts and the Marine Corps while watching displays such as tanks, air support and military demonstrations.
Fuquay Varina, NC, October 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Local combat wounded veteran, U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Stan Roberts, will be presented with keys to his new home in Fuquay Varina, N.C. during a large celebration called the Hero Home Finale on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 9:30 a.m.
The Hero Home Finale is a Marine Corps style extreme new home celebration. The public is welcome to attend as we celebrate Sgt. Roberts and the Marine Corps with displays such as tanks, air support and military demonstrations. To date, the highlights will include: air support, representatives from the Commandant of the Marine Corps office and the Pentagon, the 2d Marine Division Band, the Commander of the Wounded Warrior Battalion-East, the Commander of the 2d Amphibious Assault Vehicle Battalion (2d AAV), and the Marine Corps Commander of the 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (2d LAR). Plus there will be Marine Corps displays such as tanks and various demonstrations.
This Hero Home, built with features and options specifically for Sgt. Roberts, is a result of Operation: Coming Home, a joint volunteer project led by the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA) and the Triangle Real Estate and Construction Veterans (TREACV) that builds and donates homes for disabled combat veterans.
Sgt. Stan Roberts and his wife, Crissy Roberts, were selected last Spring to receive the 2010 Hero Home on behalf of Operation: Coming Home and the groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 1. This is the second installment for Operation: Coming Home.
As a member of the 2d AAV in Camp Lejeune, N.C., Sgt. Roberts served three tours of duty in Iraq. During his last tour, he was injured by an improvised exploding device (IED) blast into his amphibious assault vehicle (AAV). This blast resulted in the loss of Sgt. Roberts’ right leg, injuries to his right arm and traumatic brain injury. Sgt. Roberts and his wife currently reside in Cary, N.C., and will take ownership of their new home after the celebration on Nov. 4.
In October of 2008, members of the HBA and TREACV co-built and donated a home to veteran Joey Bozik, the project’s first recipient. Bozik, a sergeant in the 16th Military Police Brigade based at Fort Bragg, was injured in 2004 when his Humvee hit a bomb south of Baghdad. The home site was donated by developer Gaines and Company and the builder is Royal Oaks Building Group, LLC. Additional sponsors and volunteers are involved in this project and are featured on the website. The ranch style home will have features such as handicap accessible doorways and bathrooms, low-profile thresholds, adjusted storage spaces, and a special Marine Corps Man-cave.
This home has been featured in the 2010 Wake County Parade of Homes on Oct. 2-3, 8-10 and 15-17, 2010.
