Auto Windscreens Sees Clear Benefits of NVQ Training with Derby College
Derby, United Kingdom, October 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Auto Windscreens’ Birmingham-based warehouse and distribution centre is already seeing clear benefits after introducing NVQ2 training for 32 of its employees.
The centre in Witton operates to tight time scales so training provider Derby College needed to devise a bespoke programme which would allow training to continue without interruption to working patterns.
Steve Wood, Derby College assessor, said the course had been a great success with 30 staff gaining NVQ2s in distribution and warehousing and a further two securing NVQ2s in plant operations.
He said: “One of the reasons the training went so well was the helpful attitude and total commitment shown by the shift leaders.
“They were proactive, identifying each job and making sure everyone knew exactly what task they would be performing before their shifts began. Theirs is a fast moving, quick turnaround business but they allowed extra time for training, enabling us to come up with a programme which delivered the course, yet met their specific operational needs.”
Warehouse operations manager Joanne Shore added: “Steve and the other Derby College assessors were fantastic – so friendly and approachable.
“The main benefit we’re seeing so far from the NVQs, is much greater enthusiasm from our warehouse team. Having a well trained workforce is obviously great for our business, but offering NVQ courses is also our way of giving something back to our employees and showing them how much we value them.”
The team not only came away with a better view of the workings of the Auto Windscreens’ warehouse day-to-day operations, and health and safety procedures; many of them commented on how useful they found the qualification.
“The subjects were very interesting and the NVQ will greatly benefit me now and in the future,” said warehouse operative Adam Smith.
With a capacity to produce 250,000 windscreens a year at its factory in Chesterfield, Auto Windscreens is the only replacement windscreen business with its own manufacturing site.
Its complete automotive glazing repair and replacement service is backed by a fleet of 600 fully equipped mobile fitting units and a UK-wide fitting centre network.
The centre is now considering offering further NVQ courses from Derby College.
