Tokyo Designers Week: British Designer Thomas Heatherwick, Japanese Artist Tokujin Yoshioka Win Designer, Artist of the Year 2010

Thomas Heatherwick And Tokujin Yoshioka Win Prestigious Awards at Tokyo Designers Week 2010.

Tokyo, Japan, October 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Tokyo Designers Week Jury, have chosen winners of new "Design&Art x Environmental Awards". Thomas Heatherwick wins Designer of the Year 2010, Tokujin Yoshioka wins Artist of the Year 2010.

Each winner will receive a prize and will speak exclusively at Tokyo Designers Week. A special installation for both winners will be held at the main TDW venue. October 29th, 2010, Tokyo will host the Designer of the Year Award ceremony with the winner Thomas Heatherwick. The following evening, October 30th, Tokujin Yoshioka will be presented the Artist of the Year award.

Designer Of The Year.

British born designer Thomas Heatherwick, famed for creating the British Pavilion (Seed Cathedral) at the World Expo, Shanghai as well as numerous other groundbreaking international projects has been named Environmental Designer of the Year by international panel of judges.

Heatherwick Studio, established by Thomas Heatherwick in 1994, is recognized for works in architecture, sculpture, urban infrastructure and product design. The practice operates from a studio and workshop in Kings Cross, London, where a team of architects, designers and makers work on projects ranging from bridges and buildings to products and large scale works of public art. Artist Of The Year.

Fresh from the Sensing Nature exhibition at Tokyo's Mori Art Museum, renowned Japanese artist Tokujin Yoshioka has won artist of the year 2010. Yoshioka was born in Saga, Japan in 1967. Worked under Shiro Kuramata in 1987 and Issey Miyake since 1988 and established his own studio, Tokujin Yoshioka Design in 2000, he has collaborated with various companies in and outside Japan such as Hermes, Toyota, Bmw, Kddi, Swarovski.

Many of his works are in the permanent collections in the major museums including MoMA. He was also selected by the Japanese edition of Newsweek as one of the “100 most respected Japanese by the world.”
