Bellport Girls Track & Field Club to Host 1st Annual Road Race November 28, 2010

Bellport, NY, October 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Bellport Girls Track & Field Club announced today its first annual 5K Road Race scheduled for November 28, 2010. The race begins at 1:30pm with the starting line at the Bellport Gateway Theater and loops through scenic Bellport Village, finishing at the Bellport marina. A small group of volunteers from the community are working together to organize a fun, family-friendly day in the village of Bellport to benefit three worthwhile causes— financial assistance for individuals and families afflicted with leukemia; assistance for wounded veterans; and scholarships to benefit the young people of the community. Based on certain criteria, the proceeds will be dispersed accordingly.

“All proceeds will stay within our community with the intention of helping our neighbors,” says Gino Cruz, Head Coach of Bellport Girls Track & Field Club. “We are asking local businesses to support us in our efforts through sponsorships, along with generous donations from anyone who wishes to help us get the race off to a running start. The retail stores will remain open on Sunday, November 28th in support of this event.”

Donations at six different levels are available: Diamond Sponsorship is $5000; Platinum Sponsorship is $1000;

There are three components to the race: Kids 1 Mile Run starting at 1:30 for students 12 years old and under; 5K Race starting at 2:00PM – 3.1 mile flat and fast USATF certified course; and 1500M Fun Walk starting line behind the 5K runners. All participants of the race will receive participation ribbons. The top 10 boys and top 10 girls in the Kids 1 Mile Run will receive medals. There are fourteen categories for the 5K Race, and medals will be presented to the first three finishers in each of the fourteen categories.

Those who wish to participate in the 1st Annual 5K Road Race may register online at www.bellportgirlstrack.com/registration. Pre-registration is $20.00 if postmarked by November 22, 2010; $15.00 for kids 15 and under; or register on Race Day for $25.00. Race timing and results will be handled by “Just In Time Racing”

There will be a Post Race Party at Porters Restaurant.

This race is considered a Certified and Sanctioned by the USA Track & Field Event.
