Germany Celebrates Six Years of Microstock

Munich, Germany, October 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The idea to PantherMedia’s business model (http://www.panthermedia.net) was born in 2003 when the founders Robert Walters and Peter Ammel realized that the demand for royalty free images increased, especially for web use, while the prices for licenses remained on a very high level. Being both hobby photographers, they founded a platform that enabled private users to upload images to a photocommunity where they could share and discuss images. The best images were released in the stock agency after an extensive legal and quality check by PantherMedia’s image reviewers. This business model enabled the supply of myriad images with prices way under market average. The user-generated-content business model lead to a paradigm shift in the German stock image market.

At the end of 2003, the first beta platform was released. In October 2004, Robert and Peter founded PantherMedia GmbH, Germany’s first microstock agency. Today, more than 30.000 photographers supply thousands of new images daily, adding to an archive of millions of images. More than 100 distribution partners distribute PantherMedia images in 40 countries. Since 2009, PantherMedia operates international sales representations and continues to expand into local markets.
