Clarence, NY, October 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Michelle’s Angels Foundation Inc. (MAF) today announced its fifth featured Angel Artist: Tom Kimmel of Nashville. Kimmel follows singer-songwriters Ken Harrell, Kim Parent, Nicole Witt and TonJa Rose as a featured musical artist on the foundation’s website. Visitors to the foundation’s Michelle's Angels.com website will be able to learn more about Tom’s career as well as be able to listen to Tom’s gift of music free of any charges or fees.
When Tom Kimmel was invited to contribute his music to the Michelle’s Angels website, his ‘yes’ came easily. “Community building is part of what an artist does. It’s part of the job description. I am so touched by this gesture. It really means a lot to me to be recognized as an Angel Artist. I am blessed to be connected with Michelle's Angels, to be one of the kindred spirits that (they) have drawn together.”
Featured Angel Artist Tom Kimmel, has been creatively involved all his life. At the age of six, he listened to his mother’s music collection, growing up with Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, Brenda Lee, Peggy Lee, and Nat King Cole. Listening led to singing – for graduation he received his first guitar. After he learned his third chord, he began writing songs. After college, Tom moved to Nashville, in pursuit of his dream.
Talking about the move, Tom quotes writer and mythologist Joseph Campbell, who said, “Follow your bliss.” Tom had written more than 100 songs already, but he had never met an actual professional songwriter before arriving in Nashville. An “old pro,” Troy Seals, took him under his wing. Tom’s break came when a music publisher, whose office he was cleaning, offered him a songwriting deal that would enable him to focus on music. Rooted in rock and country, Tom’s songs were recorded by artists as diverse as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Linda Ronstadt, Joe Cocker, Shawn Colvin, Richie Havens and the Spinners. Tom recorded two of his own rock albums – “5 to 1” and “Circle Back Home” – and toured to support them, but songwriting remains his bread and butter.
Tom Kimmel has enjoyed a career as a singer, songwriter and as a mentor to others. He has led songwriting retreats in Denmark and Sweden, published a book of his poetry, and indulged his passion for whitewater kayaking, paddling through the Grand Canyon, in the mountains of France, Mexico and Costa Rica. Visit tomkimmel.com to learn about the man and his music.
“Michelle’s Angels Foundation is honored to have a singer-songwriter of Tom Kimmel’s stature as one of our featured Angels Artists,” states MAF President Herb Knoll. “Tom combines both compassion and joy in his songs. I recall Tom saying, ‘if I’ve learned anything at all, it’s that every day counts,’ and with that philosophy, we knew another Angel Artist was in our midst.”
