On Sunday October 24, Girls Inc. of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area is hosting a mother-daughter “Strong, Smart, and Bold Girl” self-esteem booth from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Mall at Prince George’s, 3500 East West Highway, in Hyattsville, Md. Families are encouraged to bring girls to the booth, located at the Mall’s center court, to participate.

With this event, Girls Inc. of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area aims to build girls’ confidence, open communication within families, and demonstrate the importance of girls having a healthy and positive sense of self. Girls Inc. after-school and outreach programs have reached 700 girls locally, empowering them to reach their full potential and become successful, confident women.

“We are happy to join Dove in the campaign to support girls' self esteem,” says Denese Lombardi, executive director of Girls Inc. of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. “Here in the Washington, DC area, our girls – like girls everywhere – are bombarded with bullying and mixed and confusing messages from the media and society. This activity will help mothers and daughters explore what makes each girl special and will help every girl recognize her self worth, understand what she is entitled to as she matures into womanhood, and own the power she has within to become her own best advocate in the process.”

Girls Inc. is a partner in the Dove Movement for Self-Esteem, which invites all women to join Dove in creating a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. To learn more and download a free Girls Inc. self-esteem activity, visit www.girlsinc.org.
