Klomptek Optimizes Its Track and Protect (TnP) Mobile Device Security Service for New Nokia N8 and C7 Smartphones
"Auto-mugshot" feature utilizes high-definition camera as a built-in defense against theft.
Zaandam, Netherlands, October 26, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Users of recently released Nokia N8 and C7 smartphones can take advantage of additional features unique to the Track and Protect (TnP) security application to protect their devices from loss or theft, including a new "auto-mugshot" feature that will capture a photo of anyone attempting to break the phone's passcode. Klomptek, an innovative software development company specializing in mobile device management and security solutions, has optimized its TnP client-server web security service with cutting-edge remote security features that uses both the N8's front and main 12-megapixel camera as a built-in crime safeguard.
If the N8 or C7 device is locked -- either at startup, on scheduled lock, or after a remote lock via the TnP web-based user panel -- a six-digit personal passcode is required to re-enable the phone's features. After a third mistyped identification attempt, TnP activates the front camera of the phone without warning, taking a mugshot of the person trying to unlock the phone and displaying it on the owner's account page at www.trackandprotect.com. In addition, the location of the phone is displayed on a map and, if the SIM has been changed, TnP will report the new phone number and operator ID.
"The 'auto-mugshot' feature optimized for N8 and C7 smartphones is distinct to Track and Protect," said Robert Harmsen, CEO of Klomptek. "The front face camera produces good-quality, recognizable images even in low-light conditions, which can make all the difference when it comes to finding the person who has your phone. Those high-res photography components become an additional measure against theft, which is a use that Nokia may not have anticipated while in development, but can ultimately help protect N8 and C7 users."
TnP is a remote management tool and security application that allows users to monitor, lock and wipe data from a lost or stolen cell phone. In addition to being able to secure content on the device through remote commands sent via the TnP web service, users are able to track the location of the missing phone in real time through the TnP online mapping system and take photographs from the device of its present surroundings, with the ability to listen in and capture images of the phone's current possessor. TnP allows users to collect enough information -- including current location, new phone number, operator ID and facial photographs -- to generate a substantive police report. All features are operable even after an illegal SIM change.
The Nokia N8 began shipping pre-orders on September 30, 2010, and broad availability to Nokia retail stores is expected in the coming weeks. The Nokia N8 has received the highest amount of consumer pre-orders in Nokia history, with at least 10,000 units a week estimated to ship to the U.K. alone. The Nokia C7 is scheduled to hit the shelves the first week of November 2010.
