July, 2008: four families are riding high on the heady market returns of the summer -- until the body of Rene McAllister, wife of multi-millionaire Alan “Mac” McAllister, washes up on the beach after a day long bash at the lakeside home of stockbroker Mathew Wirth.

Eager to avoid publicity, authorities dismiss her death as a tragic accident. Days later, the body of college drop out Jamie Sherman, a neighbor to Wirth, is discovered adrift in his fishing skiff, and while investigators suspect foul play, they decide that the youth died of a drug overdose.

Only Detective James Raker, upon hearing McAlliste’s complaints of unauthorized trading in his deceased wife’s account, suspects the two deaths are related homicides. Bucking his superiors, Raker plunges into an investigation that quickly reveals at least four members of the affluent lakeside community have motive and opportunity in either one or both of the deaths.

When his pursuit slams headlong against an investigation being conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) into Jamie Sherman’s drug dealings in the affluent community, Raker is ordered to close his case. Convinced that at least one more life is at risk, Raker refuses to back off and races to prevent the killer from striking again. The dramatic climax to his quest shows once again that murder is no respecter of wealth or comfort.

The story is set in a fictitious bedroom community on Heron Lake, NC, a short commute from Charles City, a metropolitan area of more than 1,000,000 and the financial center of the state.

328 pages in length, Deadly Portfolio: A Killing in Hedge Funds is being aggressively promoted to appropriate markets with a focus on the mystery and detective category. With U.S. wholesale distribution through Ingram and Baker & Taylor, and pervasive online availability through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and elsewhere, Deadly Portfolio meets consumer demand through both retail and library markets with a suggested retail price of $18.95 and $33.95 for the paperback and hardback editgions, respectively.
