England Women's Rugby Star Joins Britannia Rescue British Bobsleigh Team

London, United Kingdom, October 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- England Women‘s Rugby World Cup star Heather Fisher will join the GBR1 Britannia Rescue British Bobsleigh Team in the new 2010-11 season when she replaces brakewoman Kelly Denyer who has been ruled out due to injury.

She will join driver Paula Walker and brakewomen Kelly Thomas and Rebekha Wilson who kick start their season on 10th and 11th November in the Americas Cup. Their first World Cup race will be on 22nd – 28th November at the Olympic Whistler track in Canada.

Heather 26 who is looking forward to being in the GBR1 team says: “I haven’t competed competitively for 3 years in the sport and although the level of fitness required for rugby is completely different, I still really enjoy bobsleigh as you get the same camaraderie. The thing I have missed the most about competing in bobsleigh is the huge rush that you get from reaching speeds of up to 100mph as it only lasts for 1 minute.”

Heather who featured in the England team that reached the Women’s Rugby World Cup final against New Zealand last month first trialled for the bobsleigh team back in 2005. As a brakewoman she finished 2nd in the British Bobsleigh Championship in 2008 and 6th in the Junior World Championships with current GBR1 driver Paula Walker.

Heather, a part time sports lecturer is looking forward to being reunited with GBR1 driver Paula Walker. She says: “I really admire Paula and we get on really well. This is a great opportunity for us both.”

No.1 British driver Paula Walker says: “I am really excited to have Heather back in the team, she was my brakeswoman when we finished 6th in the Junior World Championships back in 2008. I am pushing personal bests and I am feeling really confident about the new season.”

Heather who missed the Winter Olympics in Vancouver earlier this year is not ruling out competing in Sochi 2014 but as it is in a another rugby World Cup year, she will have to chose between the two.
