Shelters Receive "Safety Blanket" Boxes to Help Cats
The Petfinder Foundation announced that forty-five animal shelters would receive more than 11,000 Hide, Perch & Go Boxes with a value of more than $200,000 this year. The Petfinder Foundation partnered with the PETCO Foundation and The Animal Rescue Site to fund the grant to provide a safe haven for cats waiting for adoption.
Seattle, WA, October 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- This year, forty-five animal shelters would receive more than 11,000 Hide, Perch & Go Boxes with a value of more than $200,000 from The Petfinder Foundation. The Foundation partnered with the PETCO Foundation and The Animal Rescue Site to fund the Hide, Perch & Go grant to provide safe individual havens for cats waiting for adoption.
The cleverly designed box can be assigned to a particular cat and serve as his hiding place, a bed or a perch. When the cat's cage is being cleaned, shelter staff can transform the box into a portable carrier.
"By scent marking it, the box becomes his," said Liz Neuschatz, director of the Petfinder.com Foundation, "and then, when the cat is adopted, he can go to his new home in the box, eliminating some of the stress of being transported. Once in the new home, the box can be reassembled for perching and hiding. It stays with him, like a security blanket."
"The Hide, Perch and Go Box when used at a shelter gives a cat control over her environment, allowing her to relax and become more adoptable. The PETCO Foundation is proud to be a part of this program in raising the quality of life for shelter cats," said Paul Jolly, Executive Director, PETCO Foundation.
"As stories from the shelters demonstrate, the Hide, Perch, and Go boxes improve a cat's chances of adoption and ease the transition into a new home," added Greg Hesterberg, President of The Animal Rescue Site. "It's a great program and one that we are delighted to support."
The Hide, Perch and Go Box originally was developed by the British Columbia SPCA.
