Stanley Gibbons Collections and Ranges Auction Shows Market Stability
Stanley Gibbons’ Collections and Ranges auction 5857 closed on Wednesday 20th October with the best results ever recorded with 80% of lots selling over estimate.
London, United Kingdom, October 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Stanley Gibbons 10th auction of 2010, Collections and Ranges CR5857, closed for bidding on Wednesday 20th October with 80% of lots sold.
The auction is the most successful Collections and Ranges auction the company has experienced, with 80% of the lots sold achieving their pre-auction estimates or more, with many offers outstanding yet to be finalised.
"The auction results are simply fantastic and really show the market’s stability even in these financially turbulent times," said Stanley Gibbons’ Auctions Manager, Colin Avery.
German Postal history was of particular interest to bidders with all 49 lots selling – nearly 60% of which achieved double or more of their pre-auction estimates.
The Great Britain section was also successful, selling 85% of the lots, with 78% selling on or over estimate.
Two boxes comprising Lot 120 in the Great Britain section was of particular interest to collectors, achieving 5 times its pre-auction estimate, and Lot 8, a mixed collection in 10 boxes will provide hours of sorting for the lucky bidder.
It just goes to show that it is well worth a rummage through the boxes at auction- you never know what gems could be lurking in the untidiest looking album.
"It’s a very positive sign for our public auction in December," said Mr Avery. "Our last public auction held in June this year saw 90% of lots sold, with bidders having to stand due to the numbers in attendance."
The auction catalogue for the December public auction will be available from next month on the Stanley Gibbons website: stanleygibbons.com. To request a hard copy call +44 (0) 207 836 8444 or email auctions[at}stanleygibbbons.co.uk.
