NTT Europe & Flumotion Launch Video Platform for Euroleague Women Basketball

FIBA Europe’s new video service enables timely game analyses and optimal tactical preparation for EuroLeague Women basketball games. The video on demand platform is available to all 24 teams in 12 countries.

Frankfurt, Germany, October 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- “Success cannot be guaranteed, but the probability of success can be increased significantly,” explains the German Institute of game analysis. This is also the main objective of the European Basketball Federation (FIBA Europe). The new video analysis service is being rolled out across 12 different countries for all 24 clubs that are members of FIBA Europe. From the beginning of this season, starting October 27, 2010, all EuroLeague Women games will be available online through the new VoD platform, only 24 hours after each game.

“This online video pilot will help teams to analyze players’ performance shortly after each game, which allows for in-depth preparation for upcoming games,” says Nick Marzoli, IT Manager of FIBA Europe. “We are already considering an extension of our new on demand video platform and this was one of the reasons, why we selected Flumotion and NTT Europe to power it. They provide a flexible solution and are already working with other major sports organizations.” Flumotion 360º WebTV provides a user friendly Media BackOffice that enables clients to easily upload and publish video content. Advanced streaming features such as Visual Seeking allows viewers to find the relevant part of each video faster, facilitating easier analysis of the club’s own players as well as competing teams.

Video analytics: The winning formula

Videos have always been an integral element of game preparation and analysis. FIBA Europe’s new online video system creates a professional and fair tool for analyzing games and players. “Every team is now able to analyze all games simultaneously, saving time and money,” comments Pierre Vincent, Trainer of the French Women’s Basketball team and Coach of the club Bourges Basket, who until today collected all videos via a Peer-to-Peer sharing solution.

“Organizations and companies of any size and sector are now benefiting from the advantages of multimedia content. The sports sector is a great example - live and on demand streaming of sports events can be used for internal analysis or for monetization via the inclusion of advertising in videos,” explains Sion Wynn Jones, product manager of NTT Europe. “The Smart Media Delivery Service has been developed with our partner Flumotion and enables companies to easily benefit from multimedia streaming.”

“The flexibility of Flumotion’s streaming technology was an important criteria when selecting our new streaming provider,” says Nick Marzoli, IT Manager of FIBA Europe. “We want to have the option to easily integrate additional features after the initial launch of the service.” Up until now, all FIBA Europe members had to send DVDs with videos of recorded games to FIBA headquarters, who then sent them to all members. FIBA Europe have estimated around 1,600 downloads during this season of the EuroLeague Women. Currently the video service is password protected and only the management and trainers of all FIBA Europe club members have access to it.
