The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank and CANIDAE Pet Foods have forged a special relationship over the past year, with the pet food company supplying the charity with large quantities of its super-premium dog and cat foods. In turn, the charity offers the food free of charge to anyone who expresses a genuine need. The charity's goal is to keep families together in challenging economic times.
During November, CANIDAE pet food retailers throughout the state of Oregon will offer specially marked 30 pound and larger bags of natural and holistic CANIDAE All Life Stages and CANIDAE Platinum® super-premium dog foods to their customers, encouraging them to "Feed the Dog You Love, and Help Feed a Pet in Need." For every promotional bag purchased, CANIDAE will add an additional 5 pound bag of CANIDAE dog food to its next delivery to The Pongo Fund.
The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank is an all volunteer non-profit public charity that began operations in November 2009 with a donation from CANIDAE Natural Pet Food Company of $125,000 worth of super-premium pet food. This unprecedented contribution and the many that followed allow The Pongo Fund's founder Larry Chusid to fulfill his vision of helping families stay together by ensuring that they are able to feed their companion animals.
The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank is open twice per month, allowing anyone in honest need to leave with a generous supply of premium dog and cat food. On November 14th, the pet food bank will distribute their one millionth (1,000,000) meal since they began operations last November. These healthy, nutritious pet meals help to both keep families together and protect animals from being abandoned or surrendered simply because their families are unable to afford pet food. On November 8th, which is exactly one year to the day since The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank opened, The Pongo Fund will receive the City of Portland Spirit of Portland 2010 Humanitarian Award. This is one of 17 citywide awards presented to a variety of individuals and organizations. This makes two significant awards that The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank has received since its inception. The pet food bank also received the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association 2010 Veterinary Service Award of Excellence earlier this year.
