Oyster Dome Launches ZooMyGosh.com

Small tech startup enters the virtual world category with the launch of ZooMyGosh, an entertaining and educational gaming site for children.

Bellingham, WA, October 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- What’s a parent to do when school lets out? Oftentimes, children spend hours in front of the television, passively watching cartoons, or actively engaging in violent video games. There are alternatives to these activities that not only keep kids entertained, but also allow for scholastic opportunity.

Certainly a few things come to mind as incorporating fun with learning: reading, board games and educational toys are all examples. And for many years, the computer has been a useful tool that children use for educational purposes such as homework and research.

In comes Oyster Dome, Inc., an online games company formed in 2008 with the goal of creating a safe, online virtual world where kids can create and customize avatars, play games, go to school, and make friends.

After almost three years of development, Oyster Dome has launched ZooMyGosh.com, a virtual world where kids can play and learn. The site strives to provide children with an even mix of education and entertainment. Anyone can sign up for free, and parents can purchase their children memberships to give them access to additional features.

Players can currently choose from ten Flash games, and new are games added regularly. Two staff favorites are the Zipline Game and Starfish Survival. Both games involve funny characters dodging obstacles and collecting items and prizes. Achievements, player stats, and leaderboards encourage healthy competition.

Other entertainment features include personalizing avatars with clothing, accessories, house additions, and home furnishings. These items can be purchased with clams, ZooMyGosh’s virtual currency that is earned by playing games and taking quizzes. Players can also earn special avatar items by completing quests that take them through different areas of the world.

The ZooMyGosh schoolhouse features hundreds of lessons in U.S.-based curriculum for grades one through six, including math, science, social studies, and language arts. A quiz follows each lesson, and players earn clams upon completion. There is also the Real World Places feature, where players travel to one of fourteen featured countries to explore cartoon backgrounds featuring international landmarks, national parks, and world-class cities like Paris, Buenos Aires, and Tokyo.

Another component that blends entertainment and education is the newspaper. The Zoobee News is published monthly and includes educational pieces such as science experiments and historical perspectives. The newspaper also features fun articles about current events happening on Zoobee Island, new Flash game releases, jokes, simple recipes and other kid-friendly information.

With ZooMyGosh.com, parents can provide children with the opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time. While activities such as reading and board games are timeless, ZooMyGosh.com helps children to become acquainted with technology while supplementing formal education in a fun and exciting way.
