WingSpan Pictures Reacts to Teen Suicide Trend

Los Angeles, CA, November 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- While teen suicide instigated by bullying is neither new, nor any worse than in previous years, there is an obvious upheaval of popularity in the media, which shows a larger interest in the subject matter. Particularly those involving equal rights in the lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender communities. The terms “Gay” and “Straight” being the driving force of these attacks- are being put to the challenge in WingSpan Pictures newest short “Love is All You Need?”

“Love is All You Need?” highlights a teen living in a world that exists in opposition to the one we live in now. In this short, the terms “gay” and “straight” and the conceptions and cultural stigmas attached to them are reversed. The character lives in a world where heterosexuality is considered abnormal, “gross,” and is culturally unacceptable.
This film challenges our current conceptions of these phrases by switching, not only their meanings, but also the culturally instigated conditions that are commonly paired with the phrases; like suicide in response to bullying.
This film hopes to shed light onto the highly controversial issue of human and equal rights in the LBGT Community. What is a world where you cannot love whom you wish? This film takes this question and tips it on its head by revealing the backwardness of our own society in matters of love, acceptance and freedom of choice. “While this film will undoubtedly cause some uneasiness to its viewers, perhaps that is exactly what it is meant to do.”
