Handyman Matters is Seeking Recipients in the Tucson area for Scholarship Award at 2011 Annual Franchise Convention
Tucson, AZ, November 04, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The R C Atkins/Handyman Matters Memorial Foundation will be awarding the RC Atkins/Handyman Matters Scholarship to a recipient(s) at the Handyman Matters national franchise convention held in Tucson, Arizona on February 17-19, 2011. The Foundation is looking for local Tucson students enrolled in an accredited trade school program to apply for the scholarship.
Rick and Nancy Atkins’ son, “R.C.,” inspired the R.C. Atkins/Handyman Matters Trade Scholarship. R.C. Atkins, a skilled arborist who worked in the maintenance and management of trees for 10 years –was the inspiration behind his father’s decision to create a scholarship in his honor (R.C. passed away in 2006). According to R.C.’s father, Rick Atkins, the purpose of the scholarship is to promote and encourage education and/or formal training programs that are generally applicable to the skilled trades in the building, home improvement and construction industries. This scholarship provides financial assistance to students currently enrolled in or verifiably committed to an accredited trade school program, and who are committed to learning and practicing a skilled trade as a career objective.
Scholarships amounts which are based on applicants’ financial requirements and funding available will be awarded to the candidate(s) who is/are chosen by the Selection Committee based on the information obtained in the application process. Applications must be received to the selection committee no later than December 31, 2010.

To qualify for the scholarship students will need proof of registration and/or commitment to an accredited trade school, a 300- to 500-word autobiographical essay discussing relevant experiences and how receiving the scholarship would help them reach their life and career goals, and no less than two letters of reference from professionals who have had some influence on the candidate’s decision to enter their chosen field of study. The selection committee will review all applications and candidates selected to receive the scholarship will be notified and awarded at national convention in February 2011.
