Emergent Detection Awarded $229,900 Therapeutic Discovery Project Grant for It’s Health Product, BodyKey
Seattle, WA, November 04, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Emergent Detection, the maker of BodyKey, a handheld device that tells people immediately how much fat they are burning from their diet and fitness efforts, today announced it has been awarded a grant under the U.S. Government's Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project ("QTDP") program.
"We are extremely pleased to have been selected to receive this Therapeutic Discovery grant," said Eric Fogel, Co-Founder and CEO of Emergent Detection. "These funds will help fuel the development of our device as we move towards a product launch in 2011."
The QTDP program was created by Congress on May 21, 2010 to fund projects that had the greatest potential to create or sustain high quality jobs and to advance United States competitiveness in the fields of life sciences, biological and medical sciences. Companies could apply to be certified for either a grant or tax credit, under Section 48D of the Internal Revenue Code, as enacted under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Emergent Detection submitted a single grant application for its BodyKey device, which the company thinks will make a significant impact in the fight against obesity. “Many people are looking for more personalized weight loss solutions,” said Keegan Hall, Co-Founder and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer of Emergent Detection. “Our product, BodyKey, will help millions of people lose weight and live healthier lives.”
About Emergent Detection
Emergent Detection was founded in 2010 by Eric Fogel, MS, MBA and Keegan Hall, MBA. While completing their graduate studies at the University of Washington, the two met Dr. Aaron Falk, a PhD physicist with a specialization in optical systems, who developed the underlying technology for BodyKey. The company’s initial product, BodyKey, gives weight-loss seekers an immediate reading of how much fat they have burned from their diet and fitness efforts. This information provides a huge psychological boost for keeping people motivated since they can now see that they are, in fact, making progress towards their weight loss goals. Additionally, the accompanying computer software program is packed with useful tools that allow the user to track their daily progress, help them select foods and exercise programs that are ideal for their body, and provide them with accurate forecasting so they will know how long it will take them to reach their weight loss goal.
