Recent data from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reveals that 2006 has been recorded as the warmest year on record and indications show that this trend will continue domestically and globally. In fact, the past nine years have all been among the 25 warmest years on record, a streak which the NCDC labels as “unprecedented”.
According to the NCDC report, five of the first seven months of 2006 were drier than average and when these conditions combined with unusually warm temperatures, drought was intensified across much of the United States.
