According to Chris Longden, owner of ECustomFinishes, tables and other furniture items made from reclaimed barnwood are selling particularly well as consumers are demonstrating an increased desire for American-made, eco-friendly home furnishings. “We have seen a significant spike in sales for our rustic tables and dining room tables made from reclaimed barnwood materials over the last year,” Longden said. “Our sense is that the rising interest by consumers in purchasing domestically made, ‘green’ products for their home has come to include the furniture they surround themselves with. Reclaimed barnwood reflects American-quality craftsmanship and, because it comes from recycled material, is durable and fills the need for eco-friendly.”
In addition to the demand for eco-friendly furniture, Longden said the company’s online implementation in 2009 of a comprehensive optimized marketing campaign also has helped boost sales. “We launched a fully-optimized online campaign focusing on improving our visibility on search engines which has really been quite successful,” he said. “We’ve seen tremendous spikes in our online sales inquiries and, of course, this is translating directly to an increase in overall sales.”
ECustomFinishes has also been boosting its visibility offline, too, making its first appearance at the 15th Annual Providence Fine Furnishings & Fine Craft Show in October, which featured approximately 80 exhibitors from throughout New England as well as from across North America. “This was a fantastic event for us to showcase our products and services,” said Longden. “We had an amazing response to our eco-friendly products, but also a lot of interest in our business model, which essentially lets the customer pick and choose how they want their furniture to look, right down to the finest details. We will definitely be attending this show again next year.”
