Solutions-IES Wins Engineering Excellence Grand Award
Solutions-IES develops a Sustainable Cleanup of an Emerging Issue
Raleigh, NC, November 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The American Council of Engineering Companies of North Carolina (ACEC/NC) has selected Solutions-IES, Inc. as the recipient of a “Grand Award” for 2011. The ACEC/NC Engineering Excellence Award (EEA) is an annual competition that honors and recognizes engineering and surveying firms for projects that demonstrate the highest degree of achievement, value and ingenuity.
“This year’s winners represent the best engineering projects – executed by North Carolina firms,” says Kathryn Sawyer Westcott, executive director of ACEC/NC. “They exemplify the projects that propel the economy and enhance and safeguard our state’s quality of life.”
As part of their partnership with the Department of Defense (DoD), Solutions-IES made significant advancements in the field of perchlorate remediation. Through their research, development and publication of the protocol titled “Natural Attenuation of Perchlorate in Groundwater: Processes, Tools and Monitoring Techniques,” Solutions-IES validated a new sustainable approach to cleaning up an emerging contaminant.
“I am particularly proud of our engineers and scientists, who incorporated several innovative engineering tests to solve a complex problem,” says Ann Borden, President of Solutions-IES. “By proving the effectiveness of monitored natural attenuation for perchlorate cleanup, we reduced remediation costs by 50 to 65 percent for military and commercial installations worldwide, while protecting the health, safety and welfare of our citizens.”
