New York Author Lifts the Curtain on the World of Opera in New Book "Life In Opera: Truth, Tempo and Soul"
New Book "Life in Opera, Truth, Tempo and Soul" by Maria-Cristina Necula, Goes Behind the Scenes with Some of the Biggest Stars in the Performing Arts
New York, NY, December 07, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Writer/Singer-Songwriter Maria-Cristina Necula’s passion for opera and experience as a performer and student of classical singing shines through in: "Life in Opera: Truth, Tempo and Soul," a unique array of experiences with many of the great stars and personalities that shape the opera universe.
Her interview subjects read like a who’s who in opera, including Placido Domingo, Renée Fleming, Peter Gelb, Anna Netrebko, Ramon Vargas and many others. Included in the book are many accounts of the author’s own surprising and unconventional journey, in which she tells how she came to meet and know the stars of the opera world.
“Life in Opera” offers 29 conversations with some of today's greatest opera stars and general managers as well as a film director, an artist manager, a fashion designer - all of whom discuss living and working in opera, as they bring their particular contributions to the art form. Their various perspectives provide the reader with such a well-rounded, complex vision of the opera stage, that, after reading this book, one feels almost intimately acquainted with the intricacies, the excitement, and the challenges of this world.
A regular contributor to "Classical Singer" Magazine for seven years, Ms. Necula has performed frequently in the New York City area, including at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Florence Gould Hall, and the Westchester Broadway Theatre, among others. She is fluent in six languages: English, French, German, Italian, Romanian and Spanish. Maria-Cristina’s love of words and rhythm has also been the catalyst behind her transformation from classical singer to songwriter, and in 2006 she released a first CD of her own music, lyrics, and arrangements: "One Millennium Before Sunrise."
“Maria Cristina Necula has let some of us who have many years of experience in opera talk freely about the joys and difficulties of our profession and I hope the readers will come away with fresh insights in to what opera is and how it is performed. The book should be of interest to aspiring young artists as well as to opera lovers.” (Placido Domingo).
A hundred years from now, when people will want to know what it was like for the opera artists of the 21st century, "Life in Opera" will serve as vivid and accessible testimony. (Reviewer Helena Thompson).
