The Matchup Prize 2006 Winners Announced

Winners of the 2006 Matchup Prize for fine art were announced today.

Dallas, TX, January 24, 2007 --(PR.com)-- What are the common threads linking an old shoe and cosmic chaos? None, unless they are represented in brilliant fashion by some of the world’s most talented fine artists whose works are currently displayed on the online gallery www.matchup.com. “Work boot” by Robin Antar, and “Tersinme” by Vildan Isik, winners of the 2006 Matchup Prize, are prime examples of some of the most stunning visions in today’s world of creative expression.

The Matchup Prize for fine art and crafts was established as an annual award to recognize excellence in works by artists without regard to history or reputation of the artist. It is a purely merit-based honor awarded in a juried competition by five independent judges. There is no entry fee required of entrants. For 2006, cash prizes are $500 for best flat work (paintings/drawings/photos), $500 for best in all other combined categories (see the home page for current categories). For 2007, the contest is open to work in all categories. All images submitted and approved for display on www.matchup.com are entered in the competition, with no fees and no limits on the number of items submitted. Nominal commissions are charged for works sold from the site. Entries are accepted internationally, with no geographic restriction. All submissions are made available for sale to the public (a non-exclusive agreement allowing sale of the work elsewhere with no penalty and no cost to the submitting artist). Submissions sold (through Matchup or elsewhere) prior to the contest end remain eligible for the Prize. All submissions accepted for display are automatically entered in the contest, with listing fees waived (free to enter). Prize-winning entries sold through Matchup incur no commissions. Current deadline: December 31, 2007. Decision of the judges is final. Employees of Matchup or their family members are not eligible.

Matchup is an online gallery of original fine art and craftwork offering artisans a compelling value in exposing their work to aficionados of quality original art work worldwide. Gallery curator Joel Potasznik stated he was “pleased and excited to announce this year’s Matchup Prize from an extremely qualified bevy of artisans who submitted impressive works from all corners of the globed. Ms. Antar is a renowned sculptor who has a fascinating and prestigious history in her field. Her 'Work Boot' is an amazing limestone carving! Ms. Isik has a solid reputation as a master painter in her native Turkey. Her accomplishments are just beginning to receive their appropriate recognition outside her home country. Matchup is proud to recognize her professional advancement.”
