Bayer CropScience Staff to Serve Lunch at the Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen on Dec. 9
Bayer CropScience to Donate $7,500 to Downtown Raleigh Nonprofit
Research Triangle Park, NC, November 24, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Bayer CropScience (http://www.bayercropscience.com), one of the world’s most innovative companies in the areas of crop protection, non-agricultural pest control, seeds and traits, has announced that members of its staff will prepare and serve lunch at The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen, located at the Church of the Good Shepherd on 121 Hillsborough St. in downtown Raleigh, on Thursday, Dec. 9. In addition to serving and preparing the meal, the company will present The Shepherd’s Table with an annual donation, this year totaling $7,500. Bayer CropScience staff participates in four workdays at The Shepherd’s Table each year and Dr. Jack Boyne, director of communications, has served on the board of directors at the soup kitchen for many years.
On its first operational day in June 1980, The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen volunteers served 27 hungry people. Today, the organization regularly serves meals to more than 300 people each day, Monday through Friday. The kitchen feeds men, women, and children of every faith and every ethnic group, no questions asked. It takes 200 volunteers and about 125,000 pounds of food each year to feed the hungry at The Shepherd’s Table.
Quotes:
“At Bayer CropScience, we are committed to supporting the Triangle community however we can,” said Boyne. “Whether it’s volunteering at a middle school girls’ leadership camp or serving food to the homeless in downtown Raleigh, we are proud to support these wonderful organizations that do so much for our community. The Shepherd’s Table feeds hundreds of people each day using a dedicated team of volunteers. Bayer CropScience is proud to be part of that effort.”
“A lot of companies would like to help, but Bayer CropScience not only encourages its employees to volunteer, but they give their employees the time off and the venue for them to actually get involved and give back,” said Tamara Gregory, executive director of Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen. “I think it says a lot about an employer and how they feel about their staff and the community around them.”
Details:
- Bayer CropScience volunteers will begin to prepare food at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to noon.
