G&T Conveyor Company, Inc. Wins Baggage Handling Contract at Orlando International Airport
Orlando, FL, November 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- G&T Conveyor Company, the only American owned and largest privately held turnkey baggage handling systems manufacturer in the United States, announces that it has been recently awarded the design/build contract for the new remote in-line baggage screening facility at the Orlando International Airport, in Orlando, Florida.
G&T’s innovative design will ensure the system will support the baggage throughput requirements of the remote screening facility, while complying with the provisions of the Transportation Security Administration’s Planning Guidelines and Design Standards. The remote facility will serve as the security and distribution cornerstone for millions of pieces of luggage for the central Florida hotel and cruise markets.
Commonly used by hotel and resort travelers, the remote facility is where about 6 percent of the roughly 54,000 total daily outgoing bags are first checked. Travelers staying at hotels, Disney resorts, cruise ships and other destinations can have their baggage sent to the airport’s remote screening facility prior to arrival, skipping the baggage checking process.
G&T’s automated in-line screening system will be capable of handling 1800 bags per hour with four EDS machines and up to 2700 bags per hour with six EDS machines. Using state-of-the-art intelligent IT and energy efficient automation systems, the new remote facility will help to speed up ground-handling processes for arriving and departing checked luggage. G&T had the highest scoring design, schedule and overall technical proposal, with a 97.4 out of possible 100 points, more than 7 points higher than the closest competitor.

The project also includes building renovations to accommodate the new system, a new canopy structure to house sortation and slope plate make-up devices. The completion date is scheduled for June 2012.
