Celebrate Sun Valley’s 75th Anniversary at the Thunder Spring Condominiums

Ketchum, ID, November 24, 2010 --(PR.com)-- As we approach the opening of the 75th ski season in Sun Valley, Idaho the Thunder Spring Condominiums are preparing for a busy rental season which will include several special events and offers to celebrate the anniversary of America’s first ski resort. Many skiers have had Sun Valley on their “bucket list” for many years, but the 2010-2011 ski season will be the year to visit in order to take advantage of all of the exciting anniversary events.

Thunder Spring General Manager John Parten noted, “Many skiers think that all lodging is sold out long before Christmas, but in fact Thunder Spring still has availability for the holidays and for most of the popular ski weeks in the rest of the season.” “As we continue to see a trend toward later bookings, guests can wait to find the best airfares and last minute deals,” Parten added.

The 2010-11 ski season will bring a variety of new discounts and special offers to Sun Valley visitors. As we start to emerge from the economic downturn, many local restaurants, rental shops and other merchants are offering discounts, two-for-one offers and other deals to stimulate some additional business. The Sun Valley Resort will be offering a free half day of skiing to guests flying into the Wood River Valley on an Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air flight from Seattle this winter. The free skiing on Bald Mountain must be used the same day as the daily flight, which arrives at 11 a.m. During the ski season, Horizon Air offers daily direct flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Seattle (SEA) and Sun Valley. SkyWest—serving as a connector for Delta Airlines offers several flights daily to and from Salt Lake City (SLC).

Sun Valley is not just celebrating its rich skiing history for the 75th anniversary. Dollar Mountain, the site of the world’s first chairlift built in 1936 is entering an entirely new era. Dollar is improving on the new terrain park which made its debut last season and featured 13 rails, a jump line and several boxes and jibs. The resort has announced it will open an additional 24 jibs and rails this year for skiers and boarders. Dollar Mountain will also host a rail exhibition on the evening of Friday, December 17.

Holiday festivities will continue on the following night, December 18 with the resorts’ traditional tree lighting ceremony featuring the Sun Valley carolers. Olympic Gold medalist Evan Lysacek will be the headliner for the Ice Show on December 21, commemorating the resorts original opening day back in 1936. A Classical Christmas concert will be performed on December 23 followed the next evening by the Torchlight Parade down Dollar Mountain. In addition to the holiday celebrations, Sun Valley is planning numerous on-the-snow activities, concerts and races for all ages that will continue through the end of the ski season. The anniversary events will conclude with Ski Heritage Week on March 26 and the inductions of two Sun Valley locals into the Ski Hall of Fame on April 2, 2011.

The best place to enjoy all of the 75th anniversary events is at Thunder Spring, Sun Valley’s most luxurious condominium lodging.
