Web Circle Launches Open Website Design Blog for Australian Small Business
Brisbane, Australia, November 24, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Australian website design firm Web Circle have launched a website design blog for small business and opened it up to other firms to contribute. The site awebsitedesigner.com.au is a blog dedicated to website design specifically for Australian small business and has already attracted 8 small business bloggers from around Australia.
The site has been around for some time and was purchased by Web Circle in 2009. Web Circle director Dan Norris explains, "A Website Designer has always been one of the leading website design properties in Google, consistently ranking in the top few for the most competitive terms in the industry (it's currently 1st for the term 'Website Development' even ahead of Wikipedia). But it has historically been a site only to generate leads for our main business and we wanted to also give something back to small business by focusing most of the site on quality content."
It is the first time that one of the leading website design companies in Google has encouraged others to play such a big role in their site's success - effectively opening their site up to competitors. Dan explains, "the rest of the front page in Google is filled up with website design companies who have been the best at optimising their sites to be on the front page. But very few offer high quality content for small businesses to learn about the web and what works. With the recent changes in Google, it's pretty much impossible for small businesses to do anything but see ads and local listings on the front page - but there is a lot to know before you decide who is going to build your website. It's very difficult to be an expert in everything and dedicate the resources to run a blog like this so opening it up to allow other experts to contribute was an obvious step."
Dan doesn't publish everything that gets sent to him but in general if it relates to the web and it adds some value to small business it will be published - even if it's posted by any of their main competitors. He states "our industry hasn't got the best reputation for collaboration and we hear a lot of stories about small businesses being burnt by dodgy operators. This is a chance for people who want to give some of their expertise back to do so via a site that is going to get considerably more traffic than their own. Dan mentions "one post by another web design company got over 800 visitors in 2 weeks."
