Water Missions International and Pentair, Inc. Partner to Supply Safe Water to Hurricane Victims
Fourteen water purification systems to be deployed to Mississippi
Charleston, SC, September 02, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Water Missions International (WMI), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing safe water to people throughout the world, and Pentair, Inc., a water pump and filtration equipment manufacturer, have joined forces to provide safe water to at least 56,000 Hurricane Katrina victims.
Pentair has pledged to sponsor fourteen Living Water™ Treatment Systems/Reverse Osmosis Units (LWTS™/ROU). In addition, the company will provide volunteer resources, logistical support, and product donations.
“Our partnership with Water Missions is critical because, together, we can deliver safe, clean water to the areas where it is needed the most,” said Pentair Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Randall J. Hogan.
The first three LWTS™/ROUs sponsored by Pentair will be sent to Mississippi next week. WMI has earmarked other LWTS™/ROUs for use in Louisiana.
Treating water at a rate of ten gallons per minute, each system can provide enough clean, safe water for 4,000 people a day.
“Working with Pentair will allow us to reach thousands of people who would otherwise have nothing to drink but water polluted by dirt, bacteria, salt, and any number of other contaminants that cause severe illness,” said WMI Chief Executive Officer George Greene III, P.E., Ph.D. “Pentair’s generosity during this critical time should be an example to the rest of corporate America, as well as to individuals. Now is the time for each of us to do all we can to help the millions of Americans whose lives have been destroyed.”
Many individuals are supporting WMI’s hurricane relief work through donations and volunteering, and more help is still needed. Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. has asked locals to continue to support WMI’s efforts:
“Water Missions International has been providing safe drinking water to victims of disasters in other countries since 1998. Now, for the first time in the United States, they are responding to the unprecedented devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane victims need safe water, and Water Missions International is working to fulfill this vital need. I proudly stand behind the efforts of Water Missions International and encourage all Charlestonians to do so as well.”
