As the recession has pushed clientele away from expensive city centre bars in central London, famous Clapham party and cocktail bar The Sugarcane has seen a surge in business, opening a another floor to cope with the increased demand.

A spokesperson for the club explained “As a themed cocktail bar we host many private parties, including stag parties, hen nights and Christmas office parties. We have always been busy at weekends, but with the recent surge in business it became simply too busy to meet the demand for private bookings and parties during the week. The extra floor was a must for us to maintain our high standards and friendly atmosphere.”

The spokesperson continues “We have always had slightly more women than men in our bar, which is partly due to our close location to Clapham junction station, and also due good security and monitoring of clientele coming onto the premises. It is very important our female customers feel safe in our bar. We have a central London atmosphere without the central London price tag, which is another reason our customers can relax - without the fear of a shock account balance that often comes after a night out in the West End.”
The new floor and refurbishment work was carried out with building services company Inspired Building Services (www.inspiredbuidlingservices.com). Designer Avni explains, “The area has been designed to enable easy hosting of parties, and in particular office parties, stag parties and, hen parties. Comfort and creating a relaxed atmosphere were key requirements of our brief.”
