DOCs Featured in National “Stop-the-Pop” Acne Campaign

Sarasota, Florida's Heidi Anderson, MD, is the second dermatologist in the nation selected to participate in the Stop-the-Pop campaign.

Sarasota, FL, December 04, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Dermatology & Oculoplastic Consultants (DOCs) has been selected to participate in “Stop-the-Pop,” a national campaign aimed at educating teenagers, young adults and anyone with an acne problem to stop popping pimples and control their acne with the Isolaz® Photopneumatic™ treatment.

Dr. Anderson was the second dermatologist in the nation to be selected to participate in the campaign. She has donated her services to treat a native Floridian known as “Matt,” who is receiving the new Isolaz™ therapy. DOCs is the only healthcare provider in the Sarasota area to offer this treatment. Matt’s video diary can be viewed online at www.Stop-the-Pop.com.

“When you pop a pimple, you actually push the infected material deeper into the skin, which can lead to worse inflammation and infection and increase your risk of scarring,” said board certified dermatologist Heidi Anderson, MD, a partner of DOCs.

Isolaz™ is an acne light treatment that combines a vacuum and broadband light to deep cleanse and purify pores from the inside out.

“Isolaz™ therapy provides painless deep-pore purification without down time or oral medications,” said Dr. Anderson. “The treatment benefits patients who have not responded to or would like to decrease their exposure to antibiotics, topical treatments, lasers or Isotretinoin medications. Also, because it alters the function of oil-producing sebaceous glands, active acne is greatly reduced.”

Isolaz therapy is effective for the treatment of clogged pore, inflammatory and pustular acne.

A beam of broadband light is used to kill acne-causing bacteria while a vacuum is created around the infected area to remove any remaining dirt or bacteria and cleanse the pore. The treatment requires no pre-treatment preparation or topical anesthetics, and is often completed in less than 30 minutes.

Dr. Anderson is a partner in DOCS with her husband, Paul A. Brannan, M.D., a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in oculofacial plastic surgery. The practice offers a range of skin and eye care services, including medical dermatology, skin cancer surgery, cosmetic dermatology, laser enhancement, treatment of eyelid diseases, eyelid and brow surgery, tearduct surgery and orbital surgery.

DOCS is located at Sarasota Memorial’s Institute for Advanced Medicine, 5880 Rand Blvd., Suite 201, Sarasota, FL 34238. Telephone: (941) 925-DOCS (3627). Website: www.skineyedocs.com.
