Israel in Urgent Need of Assistance During Unprecedented Disaster; Wildfires Continue to Burn Out of Control in Northern Israel
Minnetonka, MN, December 05, 2010 --(PR.com)-- As fires continue to grow across northern Israel, so does the number of children and adults who have been evacuated from their homes and the number of those who have died in the unprecedented blaze. The Minneapolis Jewish Federation is accepting urgent donations to help the victims and their families with their immediate needs.
Israel has never faced a disaster of this scope. Israeli authorities are currently focused on keeping people out of the fire zone and extinguishing the blaze. There is an immediate and urgent need for trauma relief, emergency shelter and support for the (tens of) thousands of Israelis in the path of this fire. Your generous, immediate donation can help meet these needs.
The fires, which began outside the Druze village of Usfiya on Thursday morning after a major heat wave, spread across the Carmel Mountain region and sent massive plumes of thick smoke into the sky. More than 15,000 children and adults have been evacuated, 41 people have died and another dozen are in critical condition or missing. And still, heavy winds are worsening the already disastrous fire.
Several countries have mobilized since, and firefighters from Greece, Turkey, the U.K., Russia, Bulgaria and others are providing optimism that the fire will soon be contained and recovery efforts can begin. The American Jewish community is mobilizing to send help. Please contribute to their Minneapolis relief effort.
