Caja China Pig Roast a Huge Success at the 11th Annual Barfiles Charity Wiffle Ball Classic

Over one hundred participants took part in the festivities, feasting on whole roast pork cooked in a La Caja China style Roasting Box. The catering was provided by Miami, Fl based company Latin Touch, Inc.

Miami, FL, December 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- For the 11th straight year the Barflies Wiffle Ball Classic charity event to benefit Miami Children’s Hospital was held, and once again it was a rousing success. Beyond the camaraderie of the families and their collective desire to help raise money for a wonderful cause, one of the biggest draws for the participants this year was the mouth-watering pig roast prepared by local company Latin Touch, Inc. Using a Caja China Roasting Box owner Mat Masters and his associate Beau Bryant roasted a 75 lb. pig to perfection, carving and shredding the meat into sandwiches for over 100 participants. It did not take long for everyone to converge around the table. Speaking to Mat after the event, he said:

“It got pretty crazy there. We couldn’t get the pork sliced fast enough. I just looked up and saw plate after plate. That pig was gone in no time. But to be honest with you, we’re used to that. Every event we do with the Caja China turns out that way. We’re just thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful event with so many amazing people. This is truly a community gathering, and one we look forward to being a part of for years to come.”

Judging from the amount of compliments, it appears the families attending hope that is the case as well. Among the 2010 sponsors were MBR Industries, Quirch Foods, Sandbar Grill, Café Bustelo, Vilar Cigars, All Uniform Wear, Five Media, Academia, Original Impressions, JTS Communications, Pons-Air, Independence Rehabilitation Group, National Communications, Plantation Rum, and Bofill & Vilar. The tournament was an all day event, with all participants receiving shirts and gift baskets. It was the first year Latin Touch participated, bringing their La Caja China style roast box to the event. Cooking in a Roasting Box, or “Caja Asadora” is very common in Miami’s Hispanic community, particularly around holiday time. But one participant who had spent many years living in Louisiana had a different name for it.

“We call it a Cajun Microwave. We love those things up there on the gulf coast. I didn’t know what a “Caja China” was, but when I saw it I knew right away. Best pork I’ve ever had right there.”
