The Building Envelope Science Institute Releases Dates for Defective "Chinese" Drywall Certification Courses Offered in 2011
The Building Envelope Science Institute has been active in providing solutions for the Defective (Chinese, Corrosive) Drywall since October 2009 offering certification courses for inspecting and remediating homes or commercial buildings.
Gainesville, FL, December 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Building Envelope Science Institute (BESI) is a specialized institute dedicated to the advancement of education, specifically designed for the construction industry. They have been leading the way for inspection & remediation of structures with Defective (Corrosive) Drywall over the past year by introducing one of the first protocols providing solutions to the Defective Drywall crisis that has affected owners in 39 States, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, and Puerto Rico.
BESI provides (to-date) the most comprehensive training in inspection and remediation processes developed; and based on proven science. The extensive training for remediation of defective drywall being taught by BESI considers the following major factors: corrosion, cross-contamination of other building materials, personal belongings, indoor air quality monitoring, a national warranty (not an insurance policy), and removal of the stigma from having defective “corrosive” drywall. The term “defective” drywall has many synonyms such as corrosive, tainted, reactive, or Chinese drywall; but all refer to gypsum board that appears to be the source of off-gassing which corrodes copper wiring and cross contaminates other building materials and personal belongings.
The institute has been certifying qualified candidates for inspection and remediation of structures with defective drywall since October 2009. Those that have earned a designation as a remediator or consultant through the institute have attended a two-day course with a written final exam; inspectors attend a one-day course with a written final exam; and there are prerequisites such as years of experience and being in good standing with the state if they are licensed (required for those performing remediation).
The Building Envelope Science Institute hosted its Second annual Conference on Defective Drywall in October 2010 and had several experts speak and take questions from the professionals in the audience. The defective drywall discussion consisted of six different panels of experts that covered the following topics: 1) inspections, tools (i.e. XRF), markings, & techniques; 2) chemical & scientific analysis of the problem and issues; 3) health effects pertaining to defective drywall; 4) remediation, protocols, partial remediation, clearance testing; 5) resale, stigma, warranties, realtor's concerns, buying & selling; and 6) legal issues, preservation of evidence.
Defective Drywall inspection and remediation certification courses will be held on February 7th & 8th in Tampa; April 4th & 5th in Ft. Lauderdale; June 13th & 14th in Tampa; and August 22nd & 23rd in Orlando. This next year, the Institute will be hosting its annual conference, defective drywall symposium, and certification courses in Ft. Lauderdale on October 23rd through October 27, 2011. For more detailed information about these events please visit the institute’s website.
