About Thomas J. Salerno

Mr. Salerno is a partner and co-chair of the International Insolvency Group in the Phoenix office of the international law firm of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. Mr. Salerno graduated from Rutgers University (B.A. 1979, Summa Cum Laude) and Notre Dame Law School (J.D. 1982, Cum Laude), where he served as an editor of the Notre Dame Law Review.

Mr. Salerno has participated in international insolvencies in Mexico, Argentina, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Switzerland, Germany, England, France and the Netherlands. He has represented Industrias Nucleares do Brasil, S/A, the nuclear energy agency of the Brazilian government in insolvency proceedings in Switzerland and the U.S., He participated in the program “Reducing The Risk: Promoting Mutual Understanding In Insolvency Practices” given in San Jose, Costa Rica in August, 1996, which was co-sponsored by the Associación Costarricense de Derecho Internaciónal and the American Bankruptcy Institute and was also a faculty member in the program entitled “U.S.-Dominican Republic Cross-Border Program On Commercial Law, Credit, Collections & Insolvency” given in La Romana, Dominican Republic. He was a featured speaker at the Eleventh Annual International Airline CEO Conference in Miami, and he is a member of the UNCITRAL Working Group on it’s Model Insolvency Law Project. Mr. Salerno headed the U.S. Delegation to the Czech Republic to assist and consult with the Czech Parliament, Supreme Court and practitioners regarding the complete revamping of the Czech Republic’s insolvency law. Mr. Salerno also teaches Comparative International Insolvency at Salzburg Universität. He has testified as an expert in U.S. insolvency law in judicial proceedings in Osnabrück, Germany.

Mr. Salerno has authored and co-authored numerous books, treatises, law review articles and other publications, including "The Executive Guide To Corporate Reorganizations," "Advanced Chapter 11 Bankruptcy," and "Bankruptcy Litigation & Practice: A Practitioner’s Guide."

Mr. Salerno is a member of INSOL, as well as a member of the board of directors and the executive committee of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the American Bankruptcy Board of Certification, Inc., both based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Salerno has been included in The Best Lawyers of America since 1992, is listed in Who’s Who In The World (since 1996), and was named as one of twelve Outstanding Bankruptcy Lawyers by Turnarounds & Workouts (1998 and 2000). He is rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell (its highest rating), and is listed as one of 100 nationally recognized restructuring professionals in the U.S. by The K & A Restructuring Register (3rd Ed. 2002; 4th Ed. 2003). Mr. Salerno is also a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Salerno speaks English and German.
