Gainesville, FL, December 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Gainesville Area Women’s Network, a nonprofit business networking organization, is pleased to support the Displaced Homemakers Program at Santa Fe College by donating about $2,700 this year. GAWN will present a check for $1,500 to the program at the networking group’s next meeting Dec. 15 at Sweetwater Branch Inn, located at 625 E. University Ave. As guest speakers, displaced homemakers will address how GAWN’s support over the years has directly improved their lives.

In addition to the $1,500, individual members of GAWN have donated $673 so far this year at its monthly meetings to the displaced homemakers, and the group has donated $520 raised from the sale of women’s pins. Because of the members’ genuine concern for their fellow women, GAWN’s board decided to make the special $1,500 donation. It will continue to make similar annual donations.

The Displaced Homemakers Program is a free program that helps women who have been homemakers most of their adult lives to enter the job market after getting divorced or becoming widowed.

“It’s such a blessing to be able to provide for needs that our grant doesn’t cover, like professional licensure tests, background checks for employment, and transportation assistance,” said Nancy Griffin, the program coordinator and a member of GAWN.

GAWN, which has 104 members, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It meets every third Wednesday of the month at Sweetwater Branch Inn, located at 625 E. University Ave.
