Doylestown Area Citizens Announce Formation of Friends of Doylestown Airport
Buckingham, PA, January 29, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Friends of Doylestown Airport (FODA) is a grassroots initiative to clarify the issues, dispel the myths and underscore the positive aspects of the plans to improve the Doylestown Airport vicinity and protect open space. In 2001, Buckingham Township and the Bucks County Airport Authority entered into an agreement to preserve over 180 acres for local open space uses and extend the runway 800 ft. to improve safety. Currently those plans have been derailed amid controversy and misrepresentation of facts. FODA intends to reach out to the local community to help educate and raise awareness of the positive aspects of this open space preservation project.
FODA’s education and advocacy efforts will include a series of meetings and informative presentations. FODA will use its Web site, http://www.friendsda.org, as a key communication tool including offering discussion boards so members of the community can log on and participate in an ongoing dialogue about open space and airport related issues at their convenience.
There are too many myths and untruths surrounding this issue. We need to get the facts out to the residents and educate them to the environmental benefits of this project. We have a chance to preserve close to 180 acres of open space. Who wants more industrial use, as permitted by the recent zoning changes made by Buckingham Township, along with increases in pollution, traffic and many other unpleasant side effects? This open space project has never been about receiving larger aircraft, just about improving safety and protecting our community. FODA will get the truth out to the people of the community.
Friends of Doylestown Airport invites neighbors in the community to register on their Web site and to check the Web calendar for important events. Those interested in joining in this all-volunteer education and awareness effort are welcome to contact the organization at info@friendsda.org.
