Frizzell Returns to His Roots, Not Music But Fighting, Training World MMA Champion, Cory "Checkmate" Robison for Upcoming Showtime Strikeforce Fight
Nashville, TN, December 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Nashville’s Artist to the Stars, Corey Frizzell returns to his roots, not family music roots but his boxing roots, being named World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA Champion, Cory “Checkmate” Robison’s striking/ Boxing coach and setting their sights on their first fight together on the Jan 7th Strikeforce MMA fight broadcast live on Showtime.
Although Frizzell has roots in hard core country music, as the nephew of country stars, David & Lefty Frizzell and the son of country gospel artist, Allen Frizzell and being best known for creating custom portraits, stunning graphics and top of the line flash websites for some of the biggest names in Country, Bluegrass and Gospel music, he also has roots in the fight game.
Frizzell first established a name for himself as a former Golden Gloves Boxing Champion winning several titles over a ten year career. He now finds himself utilizing what he’s learned in the past to help eight time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA Champion, Cory “Checkmate” Robison take his MMA game to the next level by being hand-picked by Robison as his Striking/ Boxing Coach.
In addition to being a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt, Tennessee resident, Cory Robison is the Head Instructor for the Lil’ Rhinos Jiu-Jitsu Program at TBJJA(Tennessee Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy) located in Spring Hill, TN and trains out of Ed Clay's Nashville MMA gym. He has lived, trained, competed, and won in Brazil, and "Checkmate" shows no signs of slowing down. Robison is a World Champion, being one of only eight Americans to win at the Mundials, the most prestigious Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in the world. They are hosted annually by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. He’s competed in just about every national and international tournament circuit and currently holds several titles including, the 2010 WKA Bantamweight World MMA Championship, the 2009 World BJJ Championship, the 2009 Pan-American BJJ Championship, the 2009 European BJJ Championship, the 2008 Brazilian National Championship, the Mr. Grappling 155lb Light Weight Championship, the Mr. Grappling Absolute Championship and two time C.A.G.E. Fighter Absolute Championship. He’s achieved an undefeated MMA record and earned a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championship all before the age of 22.
Robison has been matched up against Brian “The Law” Hall on the Strikeforce MMA Woodley vs. Saffiedine undercard, Friday, January 7th at Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville Tn. The fights will also be televised live on Showtime at 10pm ET/PT.
