Electronics Manufacturer Selects AppAssure’s Replay 4 Backup and Disaster Recovery Software Due to Its Reliability, Speed and Simplicity
Electronics Manufacturer switches to AppAssure's Replay 4 backup software due to its easy and effective way to manage backups ensuring total application protection and high availability.
Reston, VA, December 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- AppAssure Software, a developer of the award-winning Replay 4 backup and disaster recovery software, today announced that Advanced Photonix, a manufacturer of optoelectronic products, selected AppAssure’s flagship product, Replay 4, as its backup and disaster recovery solution to ensure total application protection and high availability.
Advanced Photonix Manager of Information Services, Brian Spolarich, just got tired of babysitting his constant backup failures. At the company’s Ann Arbor, MI headquarters, Spolarich found that two primary issues were of real concern. These issues were from his backup and disaster recovery software he was using:
- The lack of good system-level backups.
- True “point in time” backup.
“I could back up my data,” says Spolarich, “but what if I had a massive failure of a physical system and needed to get the whole system running again quickly?” Also, Spolarich noted that the backup solution he was using “couldn’t provide me with a true 'point in time' backup (i.e. show me the system as of this point in time vs. show me the files you happened to have backed up that changed yesterday),” which was causing him a lot of discomfort and too much time keeping an eye on backups.
Spolarich was tired of the constant failures and the risk he was carrying with the previous backup software, as he tried to make sure all the systems he needed were covered. “We had a massive failure of our big file server, and because of issues with our backup solution, we had to resort to our tape backup to get the data back instead of using the most recent full on disk, which meant the restore took a lot longer.” In addition, notes Spolarich, “Even after I had done the restore, because I didn’t have a true point-in-time backup, I had to apply a dozen or so incremental backups to the full backup, and that still didn’t put the system in the state it was before the failure event.” It took about a week for API’s engineering staff to straighten out the mess.
“That backup solution was no longer a viable solution for us,” says Spolarich, so he laid out the issues in front of Advanced Photonix’s CEO. “A big part of my job is to manage risk for the business and we had too much risk,” Spolarich explained. “We’ve had to go to that solution's environment four times in four years for something critical with just a 50% success rate, and at this point I don’t have the good, quick solution that I need.”
His boss agreed, and Spolarich began looking around for the solution that he wanted at the price point he needed.
“I did a comprehensive comparative analysis of the products out there,” he says. “We looked at various solutions, in addition to Replay. We even considered a hosted service from local provider. But in each instance, the other solutions were up to 7 times more expensive than Replay," states Spolarich.
“Bottom line, with Replay backups are simpler to manage, more efficient, more effective, and more reliable,” says Spolarich. “An added bonus is that Advanced Photonix is seeing data reduction rates of 5x.”
“Now I can focus on the things I’d like to see here: server consolidation, virtualization, and establishment of a SAN,” says Spolarich. “The bottom line is that I can focus more on delivering new value and cost savings to the business than messing with infrastructure and babysitting the backups.”
