Ritz-Y Work with Artist Kelly Walker: Living Space @ Baltimore’s Ritz Carlton Gets the Artist’s Touch
Baltimore, MD, December 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Baltimore Artist Kelly Walker’s latest piece is a new take on an old theme for the largest condominium space in the Ritz Carlton Rex Midtown, for the condo’s owner, Joe Graziose.
“The finish is distressed gilding using silver leaf and copper leaf scratched off to expose an under-color,” explained Walker.”The master bathroom has turquoise blue showing through silver, while the entryway has a black exposed through copper. The result is major bling and a modern, sophisticated charm.”
Walker has worked with projects in and around the Ritz Carlton Inner Harbor dating back to 2004. She collaborated on the look of the formal hallways and entryways, which used Venetian Plaster. Walker and Graziose struck up a relationship during that time, as Graziose was the chief investor in the Ritz Carlton Rex Midtown L.L.C. offices.
“Joe helped me display some of my paintings in the Midtown Offices and has been a patron of mine since 2009,” Walker noted. “He’s been a great referral and has hired me for several projects at the Ritz for residences. My cutting edge finishes and palette choices can be bold, but Joe embraced them and the result is his beautiful living space.”
Work on the installation began in the fall and was completed in early December.
The artist: Kelly Walker arrived in Baltimore in the mid-1990’s, and began work as an apprentice for a premier decorative painting company. She is now the force behind Artstar Custom Paintworks and a 2010 winner of the Baker Artist Award, ‘People’s Choice Winner’ and is a current nominee in the Baker Artist Award series for 2011.
Walker is influenced by the many layers of Baltimore’s rich history, as well as the experience of being one among many of the characters and energies that live here.
Walker’s canvas’ mimic her restless pursuit as a self-starter, her artistic development in Baltimore and the juxtaposition of aesthetic design and internal drive. This current body of work reflects her ongoing commitment to surface quality and color, and her total surrender to the inherent power of the media with which she works.
