Steelhenge Director James Royds' Presentation on Cyber Threats at the BCI South West Forum is Declared a Success
With a good attendance despite difficult weather conditions, James Royds' presentation on cyber crime and the National Security Strategy was well received at the BCI south west forum held in Bristol.
Salisbury, United Kingdom, December 19, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Steelhenge Consulting Ltd, a leading provider of business continuity, crisis management and information security consultancy, reports that the presentation given by Director and Head of Consulting James Royds FBCI at a recent Business Continuity Institute event was a great success. The BCI South West Forum event was hosted by Avon Fire Service in Severn Park Fire and Rescue Training Centre, Avonmouth, Bristol on 30th November 2010, and was attended by members of the Business Continuity Institute. "James was delighted by the response to his presentation, and by the high attendance of the event, especially considering the adverse weather conditions at the time," commented Isobel Nicholas, Director of Communications for Steelhenge. "James focused on the cyber threat aspects of the National Security Strategy, recently published by the UK government. His presentation included comprehensive definitions of cyber crime and the threats it presents to both individuals and businesses. The presentation also addressed what can and should be done by businesses from a business continuity viewpoint to prepare for and reduce the impact of cyber crime."
"James's talk was not only highly topical in the era of rising cybercrime but its timing underpinned the relevance of the threat to us as individuals and businesses," Isobel explained. "Our dependency upon critical information infrastructures (CII) and critical national infrastructures (CNI) was brought into sharp focus by the bad weather. As James pointed out, cyber criminals often attack our infrastructure and that's why the threat is so serious. Whilst people have been unable to get into work because of the snow, they've taken it for granted that they're able to work remotely using the internet, and be able to keep warm enough to work and even survive because utilities are still being provided to their homes."
"The attendants were made so much more aware of our dependence on our infrastructure, and the vulnerability of our way of life, such as "just in time" supply chains which are now the norm," Isobel continued. "Cyber threats are practically impossible to see in any physical way, and unfortunately we as human beings have a tendency towards "out of sight, out of mind." I believe the delegates who listened to James's presentation will appreciate that, from a business continuity management perspective, their organisations need to be cognisant of this potential threat and have plans in place to deal with cyber attack, as well as raising awareness of the problem."
