Designer Roderick Tung Creates 200 Thread Count Tuxedo Shirt for Award Season

Harvard trained Cardiologist, Roderick Tung is a practicing doctor and teacher at UCLA. Rod uses his spare time to design a beautiful collection of men's shirts. Tung says, “Medicine and fashion have more similarities than one would think. The pursuit of perfection, commitment to quality, and obsession with detail are central to both. In my field of heart rhythm disorders, we train our eyes to see electrocardiogram measurements of hundredth of a second (or 10 milliseconds). Recognizing a cuff, collar, or button detail comes naturally.”
As the story goes, Tung was frustrated by his favorite fashion houses. He loved Brioni’s and Zegna’s fabrics but not the fit and vice versa for Eton and Dolce & Gabbana. Tung decided to fly to Italy and explore the fabric mills where to see where his favorites were made and try to design his perfect shirt.
TUNG has recently launched his second collection, spring 2011 and will be available in store February 2011.
TUNG shirts are made with Italian-milled two ply Egyptian cotton ranging from 100-200 thread counts. TUNG’s designs are hand stitched in Italy with 8 stitched per cm and 4.2 mm mother-of-pearl buttons. The cut is a European athletic fit with a shorter U bottom cut and a clean French cut and double French seam in back. TUNG offers two 1/2” taller than standard collar options: Milanese has a semi-spread cut and two button closure; Super Spread has a 180º cut with a single button closure. In addition TUNG's also features two distinctive cutaway cuff options: Oversized French has an oversized 4” cuff and single button placket; Short Barrel Cuff has a single button placket and a hand-sewn double sided button enclosure.
